INTRODUCING TWO NEW GALLERIES!
BALANCED BAND
This beginner band level class, entails two positions; 4 point kneel and supine (lying on your back), with two core movements. A balanced flow between load / de-load. We alternate between each position, as this ensures we don’t fatigue too quickly, which enables us to achieve more productivity, with better control, with our key focuses.
When we are in 4 point kneel / hands and knees, we are focusing on increasing load & tolerance through the upper limb and in particularly, the wrist joint. In supine, we focus on shoulder mobility & stability, with gentle abdominal challenge and spinal articulation.
For those at Advanced / Progressions level, I suggest you do all the 4 point kneel exercises consecutively, then all the supine exercises together. Increasing length of time under load and therefore; muscular endurance. Using a strong band / loop, will also increase your challenge.
I know firsthand some of the challenges felt by beginners. The apprehension about moving with weakness, pain, or discomfort. The confusion surrounding, where to begin? When you feel so overwhelmed by the magnitude of work that needs to be done. If it is injury influenced, this can often involve a feeling of fear around movement. If there has been de-conditioning / a great loss of muscular strength, there is often a disconnection with the body, it’s awareness in space, with a muted sensory awareness. It’s really a horrible place to be. Especially if you know what the opposite feels like!
My inspiration for this new gallery, stems purely from my own experience. I felt quite lonely in my initial phase of rehabilitation, as I didn’t have an orthopedic physiotherapist and I kept thinking how great it would be to have a resource to easily refer to. Despite digging deep into my 20 years of teaching rehab knowledge!
I have started to compile all the movements that were effective for me (aware that everyone is different / every injury is different), with the desire to put them in a Beginner (Remedial) Gallery, hoping that those that are intimidated by movement, feel encouraged, supported and guided in this process.
You will see that these classes are not perfect. I hope my explanations are on point! But, my demonstrations are not what my former self could easily achieve. As vulnerable as I feel, I hope this highlights my belief that movement is not about perfection. That we ALL look differently when we move. But, most importantly, that bodies are adaptable AND they can heal and get stronger.
If you believe that, that’s a great start to your movement journey.
