FIND YOUR SUPPORTING LEG!
As the title suggests; this class is all about the Supporting Leg! Finding the adductors and abductors, to lengthen vertically through the supporting thigh and hip. The springs offer resistance, therefore feedback and proprioception. Due to this challenge, you are going to become more aware of what’s happening with the supporting leg and perhaps the differences between two sides (if there are any).
Starting with simple drills and then evolving into more complex sequences, that will be familiar from your other practices. You can apply the feedback and sensations here, to improve the motion when done at the barre and without the spring feedback.
You can explore this practice with different spring resistance / short or long, finding the appropriate resistance for you.
I begin with the Elements Long Sling and then the Elements Wide Sling (standard size). Later demonstrating with the Elements Double Loop Straps and Elements Thigh Cuffs. I’ve attached the springs to the barre with Elements Cuffs for Bars.

I’ve always been conscientious of the role of the supporting leg in quadruped variations. But with the impact of injury to my pelvis and spine and probably more specifically the result of extreme muscle loss, I was really struggling with this connection and to feel where my pelvis was in space. This is where the use of props and resistance has been beneficial for feedback and proprioception. Whilst my low capability didn’t require resistance or load for challenge, my intuition however told me that I needed help in feeling where my body was in space, whilst I was in the process of rehabilitation and rebuilding strength. And in this way, low dosage, gentle load, was very helpful.
For those of you that are teachers or have had a similar personal experience or observation, I would love to hear your opinion and views.
