BACK BODY
This has been one focus of my spine and pelvis rehabilitation.
Even though my recent surgery involved my pelvis, lumbar and sacral spine - the effects travelled far beyond the surgical site. When one part of the chain is disrupted, other areas often adapt, compensate and carry load in ways you may not expect.
The surprising part has been discovering how much the surgery (and now, lack of, metalware reinforcement / pelvic-lumbar fixation) have influenced other areas of my body- sometimes far removed from the original site.
Everything is connected! Rehabilitation can be sometimes less about treating one isolated area and more about gradually rebuilding communication, strength and confidence throughout the entire chain.
This Pilates mat class focuses on strengthening the posterior chain - the entire back body - using the magic circle to create greater feedback & connection. So much of daily life draws us forward - this class offers a welcome counterbalance, opening and strengthening the back body to support a more upright, spacious posture. By building awareness through the mid back, shoulders and hips, it can help you feel better organised and more supported in your everyday movement.
Expect ample thoracic extension, shoulder stability and strength; with hip extension to connect the legs, pelvis and spine. A targeted, specific practice designed to help your entire back body work more cohesively in movement.
